Tom was my buddy. My pal. My friend. We met on the AEW&C program at Boeing.
We would meet at Starbucks (Bucky's, as Tom called it) pretty much every morning (along with our other dear pal Bruce), and sometimes make a stop there in the afternoon. It was the highlight of every day, and a custom that went on year after year after year. A barista wrote “Kevy-Kev” on my coffee cup one morning and Tom laughed and then I was Kevy-Kev to him from that day forward.
Tom was easy to talk to. He was a good man with a warm and caring heart, and he loved his family with all that heart. He was completely in love and devoted to Theresa, and never tired of saying how happy and how lucky he felt to have her as his wife. He spoke often and lovingly of his sons and daughters. After one of our very first conversations, I thought ‘Shonaleah’ was one person but, with a laugh, Tom straightened me out.
I have lots of treasured memories with Tom, but one that just makes me laugh was when he was moving, on Kent’s East Hill, from a street level unit to a higher level. Since we were buds, Tom was not shy in asking my help for the move (and rightly so). It went swimmingly until Tom pointed out a big, industrial, metal, probably Boeing surplus desk that weighed a bazillion pounds. Since I was ten years younger than Tom, I took the bottom end as we maneuvered that sucker up a zig zag concrete staircase, after which I felt ten years older than Tom. Funny what our favorite memories are, but that is a treasured one (of so many). I smile every time I think of it.
Tom was a lab and flight tester, a trainer and a teacher, and he was well respected by all his peers. His expertise was such that he was dispatched around the world to represent The Boeing Company.
Tom, I love ya bud, and I will miss you, but I have faith in God’s love and kindness and I know we will be seeing you again, and at that time it will seem but the twinkling of an eye. I do hope there’s a Bucky’s tucked away in some corner of eternity (it is heaven, after all).
With deepest sympathy, shared loss, and realization that my words are insufficient to honor this wonderful man who was my friend.
Kevin (Kevy-Kev) Omoto

Mr. Kevin, Thank you so much for the wonderful kind words. Dad spoke about you all the time (his bud) and felt like we knew you even though Shona and I never met you. I'm so glad that Dad had you in Seattle. With Dad being far away in Seattle, it was comforting to know that he had great friends like you and Bruce there with him. He spoke about the times that you guys would go to Bucky's and it was every morning. We have never met Mr. Kevin but we love you and thank you for being my Dad's friend, his pal and his bud.
