Obituary

Joyce Eleanor Allen, 90, of Milton, Florida, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Allen was born in Coleharbor, North Dakota, to Emil and Erna Bratz and shared her life with five siblings, Clifford, Pep, Lucille, Delton and Jerry. On July 20, 1947, she married the love of her life, Bill Allen, soon after he returned from World War II. While in Portland, Oregon, Joyce had their first child, a daughter, Valerie, and later, a little baby boy Terry! Bill was attending Business School in Accounting and upon graduation, they returned to North Dakota.

Living in Minot, North Dakota, both Joyce and Bill became very involved in the Jaycees and Jaycettes or Mrs. Jaycees as they were known in later years. She became the North Dakota State President of Mrs. Jaycettes in the same year her husband Bill was State President of the Jaycees!! They built strong friendships that are still, until recently, still active and even more endearing. Even more importantly, two more sons were born, Wade and Bradley!!

After moving “lock, stock, and barrel” to Fargo, North Dakota, Joyce became the backbone and strength to her husband and four children, to begin a new business adventure in a foreign car dealership! Moving into a new city with a husband and four school age children was certainly harried, but a refreshing challenge for Joyce!! She was an amazing woman! She raised four children, through school and college, played bridge in three clubs, attended school functions, baked goodies for friends, and worked part time in a woman’s upscale clothing shop!

Upon retirement, or they thought it was retirement, they decided to move to a destination that was warmer than North Dakota; they checked out cities in southern Texas as well as Pensacola!! Even though this was to be a “retirement” adventure, it never happened! Joyce and Bill purchased a hardware store in Milton and, as the saying goes, “became busier than beavers”!! Joyce designed an area for home décor and gifts, and it became a hit in Milton, as well as, the surrounding areas! It meant buying a new home in Milton and traveling to Atlanta’s Gift Show twice a year!

Joyce was an incredible woman, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother! A proud and loving grandma to Kara, Peter, Catlin Sealey, Emily, Andrew (deceased), Catherine Glass, Laura Bucek, and, in addition, two great-grandchildren Oliver and Eleanor!!

Joyce is survived by her husband Bill, her children Valerie and Bill Darner, Terry, Brad, Wade and Susan Allen, and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 14, 2020, with visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel. Burial will be Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Highway 90 East, Pensacola, FL at 2:00 PM following the funeral service
