Obituary for Gwendolyn "Annette" Wells (Booker)

Gwendolyn "Annette" Wells (Booker)
Gwendolyn “Annette” Wells of Holley, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the age of 80.

She loved her family and was a loving and compassionate wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a friend and mentor to many in her community.

Annette was born August 13, 1938, to the late James “Miller” and Ruth (Grandeeze) Booker in Evergreen/Booker's Mill, Alabama. She was the only daughter out of three children.

She graduated from Beatrice High School in Alabama and went on to get her teaching degree at Troy State University in Elementary Education. After leaving her home state of Alabama, she moved to Florida to begin her teaching career and has resided in Holley Navarre most of her life. She was passionate about her teaching and it showed throughout her community. In her early years of teaching, she taught many of the locals in her community and went on to teach many of their children. She was honored to be named Santa Rosa County Teacher of the Year in 1981. She retired after 30 years and because of her love of teaching, she went on to substitute teach at the elementary schools in her community for six years.

She was baptized and became a member of her church at an early age and has remained a faithful member and servant her entire life. She served in the office of Elder providing ministry to her church family and community. She loved her church and always had a strong faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edwin Booker; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Perry; and two nieces.

Annette is survived by her husband of 58 years, James “Bobby” Wells; two daughters, Gwen (Brad) Farrow and Sharon (Jeff) Stanford; three grandchildren, Whitney (Joe) Santini, Trey Stanford, and Zach Stanford; one brother, Rogene (Melissa) Booker; brother-in-law Billy Wells; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Lewis Funeral Home, Navarre Chapel.

Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2019, in Lone Star Cemetery, Evergreen, Alabama, with Lewis Funeral Home of Navarre directing.

The family extends a special thank you to Lewis Funeral Home staff, Emerald Coast Hospice for the compassion and care given, and to her extended family and friends for the prayers, care, love, and support they have shown.
